pw protect folders on WinXP Pro

I have turned off Simple File Sharing and have the folder shared on the LAN fine. However I am unable to Google myself instructions on how to password protect this folder. Any information I've found always assumes the network/computers are using a Domain, which is not true and I intend it to stay that way (ie: no domain, just a workgroup).

Any ideas? I'd rather not have to find or purchase 3rd party software for this.
Am I able to password protect folders in WinXP Pro without setting up a domain?

Thanks!
dazz.

i think you can create a compressed (zipped) folder and add a password to it from the file menu.

You must create user accounts on the XP machine and then on the advanced fileshare tab of the folder configure which users have access.
Then if someone tries to access that folder he must login.

The part where I'm stuck is exactly how to set which users can access the folder. When I get to the dialog which allows me to specify users or groups it keeps asking for the "Location", which I cannot find for non-Domain related issues.

There are 2 WinXP Pro computers that need this. I asked a friend and he mentioned trying to add each computer's WinLogon user account to both computers so that the username can be found. Didn't have much success, though I was testing on a WinXP MCE machine and know MCE is some hybrid of Home/Pro plus some multimedia stuff...

Here are some screenshots to help point out exactly where I need help. The dialog boxes/windows go in order from Left to Right (1, 2, 3, 4). Dialog 4 comes up when I click "Check Names", but in both 3 and 4 the Location field is grayed out.

[couldn't edit my post so just a quick note...]
The screen shot is on the WinXP MCE machine I was testing on. I can take another screenshot on the actual WinXP Pro machine if needed.

Thanks!
