XP Sound issues

I'm having this garbled / choppy audio issue in XP. I have recorded the XP startup sound as everybody knows how it should go rather than how mine is going...

Please help if you can! Thank You

does it sound that way in headphones too? if not, then it's probably your speakers.

if that's not it, then maybe it's your sound card drivers or the sound card itself?

is the tone actually slower than normal? it sounded a bit slow but i couldn't tell for sure.

have you done any troubleshooting?

Question troubleshooting

I would agree with sde on "have you done any troubleshooting?" The headphones thing is a good idea to try and rule out crappy speakers. If it's not the speakers then:
-Has the system always had garbled sound?
-If not, what hardware and/or software changes have you made recently. Maybe try putting it back to a configuration that worked will make it work again and you can pinpoint what caused the poor sound quality.
-Check to see if the sound card is seated in the motherboard properly. I've seen cases where hardware ALMOST functions but is a little off because it's not nice and snug.
