how to un-install windows media player?
my windows media player 9 is all messed up.
i tried to remove windows components, but it is still there.
i want to completely un-install and re-install it .. is this possible?
it's not in add/remove programs either.

Yeah, I've had that problem before with other programs, not with Windows Media player, perhaps you could try downgrading to an earlier version, or wait for a new version, or see if there are any patches? If there is a better method of actually getting rid of programs that just wont go, it would come in very handy.

I'm not sure you can remove WMP9, since it installs all of that digital rights management stuff with it...
There's something in the installer which says 'WMP 9 is a system upgrade, you cannot uninstall it', or something to that effect, If I Remember Correctly.
So your only option might be to format and start over... Hopefully not, but I can't think of anything.

You can't un-install. You can, but windows will re-install it at the first boot (you won't notice it). This is inherent to windows. I have this from the Microsof KB but I can't remember where exactly. I needed the same thing 6 months ago.

I just have an idea:
Sde, suppose you installed Media Player 9. Then you can un-install this the usual way. After re-boot, Windows will re-install the original version wich is shipped with your MS Windows version.
I hope it is somewhat helpfull for you.

I'm pretty sure WMP integrates pretty tightly with other windows components (IE, for example) which would "break" if it were removed.
So them making it so you can't remove it makes sense to me.

a while ago i figured out it seems to be buggy. you can ctrl+alt+delete and kill the wmp process. then it seems to work fine.
