what is the difference between text and ntext ?

ntext is 'nationalized' text .. which means it supports 2bye characters for languages such as japanese.

according to some random yahoo groups post anyway =)

Yep.
I believe you also did come C++.
Then you know the "char" keyword.
"wchar" (wide character) is for internationalization. Like chinese or japanese
