RPC Worm, pretty bad

All I know is that there was a rash of problems starting last week at our college. The anti-virus wasn't catching it, and the repair guys couldn't figure out how to fix it. It was fairly limited, a few dozen computers. But it's gotten worse, and the head reapir guy had to cancel his vacation. The way he described it was very similar to this bug.

i am working on the VP's laptop right now. he didnt install his patches like my emails told him to do.

my server got infected =( just search for msblast.exe and delete it or go into control panel admin settings services then right clikc on rpc and make so if it has a prob do nothing . this seems to work ontill i canfind out where the hole in my firewall is

i would patch it but ever thing comes down to money. the people down in hr and account dont seem to realise that all of thier web server is running on a trail vs of win server 2003. expired trail vs = no updates or patches. owhell whats a lonely intern to do

admin i argree but ( your going to love this ) all the it peeps have 10year so tehy would have to train them. isnt 10year great. these peopl only know windows and novell. gl trying to make them change that. like i siad whats a lonly intern to do?

then you have to get the people that control the money to think about the two things. which will cost them more money, paying license fees and losing money on the downtimes they get when the software they are paying for sucks and dies on them, or if the lose more money switching over to something that works and training the user how to use that. its not the user have to learn how to recompile a kernel of program in c, just learn the *nix equivalent to the windows app that they cant use because their network admin is too lazy to install patches. or they could just hire a admin that knows what they are doing instead of going golfing all the time.
