this subject doesn't really inspire me to help ...
find a win 95 boot disk, and run either one using that, then u can see whats on it.

Well now that depends on if one of the drives really does have XP on it, in which case it's probably formatted NTFS, and a Win95 bootdisk won't read that. So based on the assumption that one disk probably has NTFS on it because it's got XP installed, you might infer that the other HDD is your data drive based on what filesystem it's using, e.g. FAT32, which I'm certain the Win95 bootdisk will have no trouble with. Both disks NTFS, no luck.

I think its fat 32 actually. There wouldnt be a problem except when it was sent away and formatted, i think that the names of the HD's may have been changed. So im unsure which one to install over. Im pretty sure its C: that has the stuff i need on it, it used to be D:. Maybe i should call the computer repair ppl and see if they have any records?

When you’re installing XP off a bootdisk in DOS it will get to a point where it ask if you want a full install and then you select what drive you want. In that it will tell you your 2 options. Then it will say the size of the drives next to the drive name, and after that it will show free space. And install on the one will full free space.
P.S. Windows SUCK!!!!!

I really oughtta get around to dealing with this.
New forum format isnt much different from the old, So i reckon i prefer the old, The blue and green was a bit less...harsh
Would linux be easier? Whats the difference between them?

Would it be unsafe to just unplug one of my Hd's.
There wouldnt be any data loss or hassles replugging it. Right?

I had a friend unplug one of his HD's while the computer was running once. Took out the HD, motherboard, ram, AND one of two CPU's.
Unless your HD is hot-swappable (which it probably isn't), then unplugging is a bad idea.

Just make sure your computer is off when you do it, then there shouldn't be a problem.
If you get a message about not being able to find an OS, you know which HD you unplugged.

Even if its old: Here's the solution
Boot from your original Windows XP CD. If Setup first asks you if you'd like to repair the Installation with the Recovery Console, Press "r" and you find yourself in a DOS-Like recovery console. There you can Check if C: has important data or stuff.
