Factoring of Polynomials

I want to try and write a program that factors polynomials. Are there any posts or websites that can point me in the right direction on how to begin on writing the code. I think the main help that I will need is "how to do the calculations. I am working on this project for myself(not homework). I don't know if this has ever been tried before in programming; maybe in a visual basic interface.

I want it to:

Factor Trinomials

Factor Perfect Square Trinomials

Factor sums and Differences of cubes

Factor Polynomial Equations

Solve Applications

Thanks

Thanks

I am not familiar with those websites. However, I could give you a starter:
Suppose you have a function like:
2*x^3 - 5*x^2 + x + 60
You could make an array (or vector, try that) so that the function is modeled as:
Code:
vector<double> theFunction;
theFunction[0] = 60;
theFunction[1] = 1;
theFunction[2] = -5;
theFunction[3] = 2;
Do you see the logic? From here you could move on.
Start with this. See what problems you're facing in the process and try to solve them. If you try, then I will be there in case of trouble as usual.

God, this reminds me of one of the questions from one of the ACM programming contests I was in. I swear I had to write half a compiler before doing any algorithmics. Never submitted the problem. I think it was a problem to keep MIT or Harvard from annoying the rest of the teams with their brilliance by finishing all the problems in two hours.

Thanks Valmont

I appreciate all the help that everyone gives me because this is my first time in programming; I don't feel bad because my other classmates are struggling too.
Anything you want to achieve in life you have to have the perserverance to overcome all struggle; no matter how frustrating it may seem.

Thanks again.
