Windows Joystick Input

I need to get input from a usb joystick, but what I tried didn't seem to work, I believe it is because it is a usb joystick (cause I couldn't find any other apparent reason why it wouldn't work. Maybe I'm just way off). Does anyone have any experience with this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Well, I found another solution to my problem, I am now just using the arrow keys. However, I haven't ever really used the OnKeyDown(UINT nChar,...) and OnKeyUp(...) functions, due to something I don't know about, my main View isn't detecting key downs and ups. Can someone point me in the right direction?
