Mustardman in here :)

So if I understood your post correctly, you would like to learn graphics, and KDE is your environment. You are also a beginning to intermediate programmer (?).

Ok, that means you have Qt2 or the Qt3 environment. You have also KDevelop.
Since you have Q2(2/3) you might want to learn the Qt version of OpenGL.
Your steps: Make sure you have a firm grasp of C++. Make sure you can handle KDevelop well. Then learn OpenGL with Qt. The latter is not my line of expertise. But the tutorials are out "there".

Wasup?

Well, not quite. I "know" what graphics are, I would just like to learn how to write stuff in C++, using a graphics library. I want to see something work, with my own eyes.

I would say that because of the exposure I've had to various languages, and the fact that I can tutor others in beginning programming fundamentals and concepts, I'm likely an Intermediate level programmer.

On my Debian 3.0 Woody box I have KDE3.1 running. Also, there is KDevelop that I have installed (still getting an issue with "xgettext" not being installed, though I can find it no where on the net). It really isn't necessary to learn how to use an IDE well before a graphics library (or computer programming language for that matter) can be used, that much I know

So, really, in a nutshell, what I am looking for is a tutorial on doing something with the Qt library (I realize that C++ is most commonly used with Qt), or perhaps a graphics library that can be used with C++ on Windows 98. Everyone seems to be doing it, I've just not found anyone that can explain how they got it set up, or how they did something in "hello world" fashion

Currently Trolltech (Qt makers), do not provide tutorials for graphics with Qt .
But they delivers source files in qt/install/dir/src . Use these as examples for your needs. You can also observe the Qt's own OpenGL library by studying the description of its classes. In the latter case, you can use this accompanied with the usual OpenGL tutorials on the net.

Furthermore, if you "must" see some colors, you definatly want to check out the thread called "installing CMU" in this C++ section.

And last but not least... there are tons of free graphic libraries out on the net. Start up google and take you pick.

Thanks, but no thanks

I thought that maybe someone here knew something about how to work with graphics libraries and C++, apparently not. I'll be discontinuing my membership here. Take care.

Wtf? What were you thinking? That someone is going to hold your hand, pointing you towards a graphics library? Dude, choose your your own lib. There are TONS of grph libs out on the net. Gazzillions. You can't expect any of us having experiance with your current libs.
And you can count on it that some of us do have experiance with graphics...

I wouldn't say that all too easely. Knowing your IDE is knowing how to bypass bugs when installing 3rd party libraries. You even will have the option of finding out how to "port" libraries (solving compatability issues), customize them, and so forth.

Stick around, ppl might be willing to help you out, more than you think.
