Looking for a good Image Loading/Writing Library in C

Hi All,
I'm working on a project in C (not C++) that is mostly a procedural image manipulation system, batch based, so it doesn't need any sort of display function, and I'm looking for a good open source library to help me with loading and writing image files. Does anyone have any recomendations?

OpenCV.

It might be overkill, but it's the best one I've heard of that isn't some half assed untested project on sourceforge. This one is a decent untested project from Intel

Thanks for the reply. I see what you mean by overkill potential

I was thinking about something simpler... But I guess one benefit would be w/ a full on object recognition library I could make my own implementation of MASSIVE

I decide to go with DevIL (formerly known as OpenIL)
