Add Drop-Menu Value to Database

Hello Everyone,

Does anybody know how to add the selected value of a Drop-Menu to a MySQL database, I can do Text Fields no problem, just Drop-Menus are a problem!!!

What problem?

<select name="dropdown">
<option value="first">first</option>
<option value="second">second</option>
<option value="third">third</option>
<option value="fourth">fourth</option>
</select>

PHP Code:

$my_dropdown = $_POST['dropdown']; 


It's the same deal as if it was a text field.
