Symfony PHP5 Framwork

Anyone use the Symfony PHP5 framework before? http://www.symfony-project.com/

It's come highly recommended from a friend, just curious if anyone else has used it. Also, on the same topic, has anyone used the CakePHP framework? I'd like to hear about it.

Thanks.

i installed Cake PHP and i'm trying to get a handle on it. i'm not finding it or the documentation very intuitive and i would be even more lost if i hadn't spent any time with ruby on rails.

i've only given it a few hours of my time so maybe i just need to dedicate doing a project with it to really understand it.

Definitely look into Symfony, I haven't used it but an ex-coworker whose coding abilities I respect looked into various frameworks over the course of a couple months and didn't have a lot of nice things to say about Cake

I've just downloaded Symfony and looked at the source.
IMHO it sucked in using the PHP5 capabilities so i've deleted it.

Working on a PHP 5 framework myself and didn't find usefull stuff in Symfony for it either.
When my Open Source project is ready for an alpha i will keep ya informed, but for now i think you're better of with a PHP 4 framework.
