Unhappy PHP After Installation Issue

Hello Expert,

I've simply installed latest PHP on my Windows 2003 server. Soon after installation, I tried running a PHP file (Hello World), but it says File Not Found (404) to any PHP file!

Here's the URL for you to test: http://www.orthotic-lab.co.uk/hello.php

Why is this happening, the file persists there, I know that, but is not viewable by the webserver, IIS! Something that I have done wrong while installation?

Any comments/suggestions will help me a lot.

With Best Regards,
Vicky

Have you tried placing a regular html file in the same folder to make sure it isn't the location seen from IIS thats wrong ?
What does your error-log from IIS reveal ?
What does the error-log from php reveal ?

Did you configure PHP as SAPI or as CGI ?

in windows 2003/IIS6, it is important to consider the following:

1. In IIS, make sure the home directory is pointing to where your files are.
2. Click configure, and make sure the .php extension pointing to the PHP executable or dll.

<those are kind of obvious, but these can be easily overlooked>

3. In IIS6, there is a 'Web Services' page under the left side where you normally right click and choose properties to see your default web site. In Web Services, you need to add the php service and point it to your PHP executable. If you do not do this, PHP will not have permission to run.

4. Permission: make sure the PHP executable can be executed by the 'IUSR_*' account on your system.

RE: PHP After Installation Issue

Many thanks for the replies.

I am working on the tweaks as posted. Meanwhile, I recently came to know that the server I was working on it, already had PHP4 installed on it. Now, will that be a problem? Will the application like "Plesk" will stop working or die? Is there any way that I can un-install the PHP5 now back to PHP4?

With Best Regards,
Vicky

you can use multiple versions of PHP at the same time.
The trick is to setup several extensions:

.php = php 4 dll (or any other you want as default)
.php3 = php 3 dll
.php4 = php 4 dll
.php5 = php 5 dll

Or even something like
.php50 = php 5.0.5 dll
.php51 = php 5.1.1 dll

Read the documentation carefully how to set this up
