multi-platform/browser design...

ok.. so it's not the first time this has happened..

i sit for hours on end designing something that looks clean and very easy to navigate.. i check it in ie5, ie6, netscape 6 .. all on pc .. then i go to work the next day and look at my site on someone's mac .. and a couple tables look like complete crap!

it's nothing i can't fix, but it is annoying.. i am going to have to purchase a mac just so i don't have to rely on others to check my design as i design the site.

maybe this should be a steam room post, .. but i'm sure you web developers share my fustration with this.

doh.

are you writting all the code by hand or using dreamweaver? you might be able to resolve the issues if you try rewriting some of dreamweavers stuff by hand (it puts some tags you dont need into your code sometimes).

btw, .. dreamweaver MX on OSX really impressed me because of it's much better text editing, line numbering, and php support.

this really makes me think about starting to use dreamweaver, .. but i'd have to really use it more to make that decision.

the text editing does php syntax highliting ... kinda like ultra edit or some other text editors that support php.

it also handles previewing pages in a really cool way .. the project has the server ftp information in it.. and when dreamweaver recognizes php tags in the code, .. it will upload, publish, then pull up the url instead of just previewing on your local hard drive when you press F-12 to preview.

as long as it has great text editing, .. i'll probably end up using it.

i do need a mac though .. i guess anyone should who is running any type of design business .. especially for website viewing reasons.

(BTW mac's don't suck they are just too damn expensive)
