so where exactly is the line drawn for ...

so where exactly is the line drawn when it comes to ripping off other web site designs.

i saw a site today that i really liked... and i started to base a new site off that look.... i'm just trying to emulate the basic structure of the site and i'm not copying any code at all.. i'm writting it myself. but the skeleton is looking very similar.

i'm sure after i add content and customize logos and bend some curves it will look a different, .. but i wonder where the line is drawn before someone accuses someone else of copying their website.

i'm sure a color scheme would make things look different too.. but ya know .. i don't think anyone can own the look of a table. like if i make a table that is 1 pixel high.. folowed by another that is 10 pixels high . . .

i guess it could be a bit like music. .. and how dj's play their own mixes of the same music.

well now i'm just thinking aloud here.. what do you all think?

its all about ripping other people's designs off.

file > save as > mysite.html

woooo!

seriously though. i dont think its that big of a deal unless you are blatently re-doing there site to be yours.

as long as the subject isnt the same as well ... and you are not using their text it should be ok ...

although you might get some weird looks when your site looks too much like theirs

(you can point to what it is exactly .. but something always makes the site theirs (just as that you always recognize the artist when you hear a song, even when you dont hear the voice ... something makes it his/her))
