Php Vs. Asp

I know PHP very well, .. and ASP somewhat less. There's a project I'm working on where I am having to justify using PHP on a windows server which already hosts an ASP site.

I feel much more free coding in PHP but I was wondering If anyone can give me specifics on why it's better to code with PHP.

Sure, they would both do the job. I prefer PHP because it's more accessible and the open source community does a good job of providing upgrades, patches, and bug fixes. More so than with ASP, I think.

But IMO the fact that you are more familiar with programming in PHP should be reason enough to use it.

After all, the PHP-Windows binary is, of course, a free download, and I can't imagine that installing it along side ASP would make any noticable degredation in the server performance, so where's the downside?

eh .. the company that manages most of the web site doesn't want to run php on the server because they say it would take up too much of the server's resources. i know that is b.s. because our company runs a few other servers win/iis/php and i know it doesn't use much at all .. even when being heavily used.

i have a meeting next week and just want to be prepared with as much as i can.. this is the only reason i'm asking this.

asp is suck
php is rule

its as simple as that.

php & mysql were the fastest together, maybe you can use that as a reason.

if they're already running asp, adding php adds to their security risk, cuz now they have 2 web scripting languages to patch instead of one. the server resources excuse is bull, though. the difference versus asp is negligible (unless php is running as a cgi and asp is built into the server).

in my opinion, php is a much better language. however, if *you* can't think of a good reason why you should be using php over asp, maybe you shouldn't be.

thanks, .. but i already know why i prefer php over asp .. this is why i was asking everyone else. my reasons are because of the many more functions it offers as well as excellent OOP features.
