VB or C#, or something else

I wish to code basic windows apps to do things such as orgainze files, launch other apps, and other things. I tryed some VB but really didnt like it because of the lack of hard codeing you do and the fact that things your doing with VB go from easy to hard fast. I know very little about C#, but from my understanding it is like VB only more C in mind, you hard code GUI things and it is more powerfull then VB, or at least from what I think I know about C#.
what can you tell me about C# vs VB, and which one should I stay with?

if you are leaning towards ms technologies, i would by far recommend c#.

c# is 100% compliant with .net, whereas it is possible to use 'legacy' code with vb. c# also allows you to code in c style so the move to or from another language such as c, c++, php, perl, or java would be much smoother than to/from vb.

visual studio is the best ide i've ever worked with, but that can go for both c# or vb.net

ultimately they can do the same things cause you are using the .net framework, so it's more of a personal choice.

The .NET documentation is 1.7Gigs, thats a book all in itself =) I use "C# in a nutshell" though, I would like to see a book that explains Delegates better.

Once you get a good grounding in C# with an entry level book like Sam's and assuming you are new to programming - I highly recommend "Beginning C# Objects: From Concepts to Code" by APress.
Also if you are considering a career in the field consider "The Career Programmer: Guerilla Tactics for an Imperfect World" by APress. This book will give you an early wakeup call. And for a quick reference (I take this to class with me) "C# Essentials" by O'Reilly.

I don't agree with the "from easy to hard fast" bit, but I have never been a fan of Visual Basic. Dim wordy As New Wordy
