Definitly the XBox, It's far more powerfull than the PS2 and has
(To my opinion) better games on it.

I have both; my son (age 7) normally plays the PS2 because they do have a good assortment of kids / milder games for younger people. I like alot of the games for the PS2 just because they're fun to play. The XBOX is more for me, the games are geared towards older players and more detailed.

Where is the option:

neither - Save $200

I actually got an Xbox from one of my friends on My Bar Mitzvah (13 B-Day), I returned it though and got 200 bux back!

Ilya.

The XBOX might have a bigger CPU, but the overhead of all it's features drags it down.

Kinda a toss up I guess. PS2 has more games, but XBOX has particular games that PS2 doesn't.

I voted PS2 because its not microsoft, and you can get a linux kit for it.

Xbox is clunky and large

It being big doesn't matter in what it is supposed to do, Lying
on the desk processing data for games.

XBox Linux

Further more, The XBox can run Windows2000 as well, I'd like
the PS2 do that. Also, You have XBox-Live.

[edit]

I'd like to have a discussion about this, But please don't let this
turn into a Flame-War with ridicelous arguments like, "too big",
"too ugly", "too heavy".

that is fine until you want to bring it over to your friends house or you want to mount it in your car.

after all, all cars need a video game system.

my console of choice is still dreamcast. i spent $60 on the unit, 4 controlers & 3 memory cards. i currently have 30+ games that cost me $15 for all of them (the cost of CDRs)

Getting a gaming console was a family affair with me. We considered the XBox PS2 and the GameCube. My wife liked the GameCube 'cause it had all the classic games that she grew up with and that weren't very violent. I liked the XBox due to the more mature games.

We ended up agreeing on the PS2 due to the wide variety of games that were both for the more mature audience and the younger audience. (and the controllers fit better in her smaller hands, plus they are uber-comfortable for those 6 hours marathons) The only problem is now I can't get any game time due to my wife playing Gran-Tourismo all the time, and here I thought I was going to be the addict!

Okay, I've been looking around and dug up some Facts.
First, Go here for a very straight forward Technical comparison.

As for the XBox size difference from the PS2:
XBox: 300mm x 80mm x 180mm = 4320000mm
PS2: 301mm x 78mm x 182mm = 4272996mm
So no real difference to be seen between to two.

As for the weigth difference:
XBox: 2,4KG
PS2: 2,2KG
Some difference to be noted here, But nothing radical.

The above is to get rid of any rumors and pre-judgements of
the two consoles. On the games front, Thats all a matter of
opinion.

The PS2 information came from this site .
The XBox measurements came from this site , Doesn't look all that proffesional
but the dimensions where nowhere else to be found.

where did you get those measurements?

i have never seen an Xbox & PS2 side by side, but when viewed seperately the Xbox looks huge & the PS2 looks much smaller.

I'm an XBox guy

I've owned both....

If you get an XBox modded (modchip.ca for example), and put a decent hard drive in it, you'll never burn a CD again.

Super simple, great hardware, and the games are good (although that's subject to taste).

I've been avoiding MS recently like they're products were on fire, but for me, there's no contest.
