When I've seen referals on other sites it will be something people do when they sign up. It works like this if a tells b about the site and b signs up, when b is signing up there will be a text box asking if anyone refered b to the site. If b types in a's username or whatever required information then a gets some kind of bonus from the site. Unfortunately I don't know of any bonus that could be given to people at codenewbie other than just being a rockin' dude for having refered people.
In short it's used to hand out little prizes for getting more people to sign up because then the site can get more money from advertisers and just generally have more users.
just being curious : who has the most referals at the moment ?
i wonder if i typed in who showed me this site .. because i didnt know her username at that moment (and still dont know ... really mystery girl )... just her rl name
