Power Outages

This morning I walked into work, and then heard a big 'bang' right before the power went out .. it came back on and then it happened again about 5 minutes later.

Outside the window is our big green power box. It was smoking with charred black paint around the cracks which lead to the inside.

Fortunately I have a laptop, and our wireless network is on a battery powered backup. I have 43 minutes left on this battery and our backup is probably about the same.

I hope they fix it soon .. or send me home.

We've had a couple transformers down the street blow at different times, several power outtages, and most recently, a tractor-trailer rig ran over the main power line on our block and had power out for about 11 hours. Oddly enough, we have one of those power company relay stations down on the foot of our street, and yet we have more black and brown-outs than anyplace I've seen. I've got a UPS on my PC there in case I happen to be updating the firmware on a $20,000. piece of hardware and the power should go...
