website chat software?

hey guys.

i need something for my website so my users can chat. i set up a php based chat system but everyone was bitching about it 'clicking' on page refresh.

does anyone know of a decent Java based chat? i dont mind paying a couple bucks as long as it works well and doesnt eat up too much bandwidth....

JIRC and an IRC chat room somewhere, or look at the tut on chat at phpbeginner.com (it's at the top.)
