wireless pcmcia and linux?
i just saw a guy on the news driving around a neighborhood searching for open wireless networks.
there was a terminal open and it showed the networks it fouind in the area. it seemed like he was using linux with a terminal opened in kde or gnome, . i'm not sure, .. but i'm wondering what software he was using to detect the networks and display the networks that were detected.
i'm setting up wireless network at my dads in a couple weeks and want to know more about the security of it.

I am not a security expert, but I suggest you google for it.
You can also ask Vlad, he is a security guru.

*wishes he knew something about security*
sde: They were probably just trying to get holds of any waves and see if they were encrypted or not, and if they were encrypted they probably tried to break them with Airsnort (search on SourceForge for it).
EDIT: To increase security use good encryption like 128 bit RSA encryption.

yeah, i've setup wireless systems before, .. all you have to do is put a wireless nic in your pc and the nic will display any networks around, but that is for windows .. i've never tried it on linux .. maybe that is all i would have to do . .just try it.

PGP is cool.

It's NOT PGP, it sucks because it uses a patented algorithm (IDEA) and you obviously didn't even STFW...
