What do you drive?
I'm currently contemplating what to buy for my first car. It's going to be a beater, something < $1500. I had a 1983 Nissan 720 light truck offered to me for $1200, and I'm thinking about getting that. 130,000 miles for a truck that age is pretty good. Nice condition too. The drawbacks are: 80's style Beige/yellow paint , and questionable A/C.
It gets up to 100 on a regular basis in the summer here in Washington, and I've spent days here when it was 115 outside, so it is important to have good A/C. And i think if i buy this truck, I'll paint it something less... brutish.
Enough about that. Anyone want to talk about their car?

Waiting for next summer when the Cadillac CTSI comes out (rumored 400 HP LS6 engine in a CTS) to upgrade the Olds.

Why not.
1998 Audi A4 Quattro
2002 Volvo S60
I drive the Audi back and forth to the train station and daycare during the week. My wife drives the Volvo. I'm lucky if I see it on the weekends.
Both cars are fun to drive.

'02 Dodge Ram, all the amenities.
This is my second Ram, I wouldn't buy anything else. Imagine the above with the rear-end smashed in and that's mine (recent accident)

Thanks. As a matter of fact, I finally had a system installed a couple of weeks ago, replacing the stock tape deck (who the hell needs a tape deck anymore?). I got a really basic system with a 5 channel amp running some seperates, 5.25 coax set and a single 10" sub all controlled with a Rockford CD/MP3 head unit. Sounds pretty nice, haven't really driven much in the past couple of weeks so I haven't tested it out yet.

Aside from the carputer concept, there are several manf. that have copied the idea and come up with different types of onboard HDD's storing MP3 files, I've even seen a Sony deck that you can use a memory stick to transfer files back and forth. There was a Kenwood 'Sound Keg' or something like that, basically a removable 10GB HDD that you can plug into your PC and transfer. At $900. I decided against it.
So far I've experimented with a few CDs on this RF unit, and it seems to playback MP3 CDs very well with the exception of one CD that skips no matter what I do (skips stopped at the light, for example). I'm thinking it may have to do with the media (Memorex 40X cdr media) either being a 'bad' CD or maybe the unit works better with a different brand. I burned three MP3 CDs at 12X (the recommended speed), and the one that skips contains the most files, something like 600MB worth. Maybe 'mkisofs' had some problems keeping all the sound info together while creating such a large disk? The two other disks (one contains about 300MB of misc stuff and the other contains every LedZep recording on one CD, about 450MB) work perfectly. More testing...

working for a company that manufactures recording equipment and hi-end cd burners, i end up dealing with many end users burning their own cds. media is a HUGE factor of successfull cd burning.
if you use memorex, verbatim, or generics, you are bound to get a few coasters out of each bundle. if you do get a good burn, they still might wear out over a shorter period of time due to heat generated by your deck.
my sony deck has an amp built into it ( i don't use it, but i can't turn it off ). the amp generates a lot of heat which tends to wear my cd's out if i play them for long periods of time over a period of a couple months or so.
i highly recommend tdk. they'll last longer. ... but even with the heat of my deck, tdk will wear out too. i think it's a poor design by sony.
it's ok though, by the time your cd wears out, it's good to make a new mix anyway =)
