Question What OS do you code in?

I've done almost all of my coding in windows/DOS. Which is ironic, because linux is odviously better suited and the all around better operating system. But for a newbie like me, the development tools just flat-out suck. Borland may be windows, but I belive that you must use the right tool for the job whenever possible.

Linux

Since I havn't got one machine running windows, I would have to say Linux..

Even java-applets I code in linux, and when they work there, I try them out on windows platforms.

I do all of my C++ coding in MS Visual C++, I've yet to see a better development environment. I have a program that quickly converts the MSVC project files (dsp) into Makefiles that are about 80% complete for building on UNIX. Works in FreeBSD and Solaris, I rarely even bother with Linux.

For Java coding I use Oracle JDeveloper in Windows or occasionally Sun's Forte for Java.

PHP and other HTML related stuff I generally use HomeSite 5 and Dreamweaver.

For all other UNIX type stuff (perl, shell scripting, etc.) I use vi on whichever platform I'm working in.

Almost all of my production code runs in its complete state on Solaris or FreeBSD, ocassionaly in Windows.

I code in Windows most of the time. (Forte for Java these days) Other times I use some Unix/Linux flavor.

Not that I'm a professional programmer, or even a very good one, but I do everything from either linux or bsd, with VIM.

I generally code in Windows because I currently don't have the time to learn how to use another OS.

For ASP and HTML I use ColdFusion Studio. I played around with CFML, but I really didn't see any real advantages over ASP. It also turns everything pretty little colors so its easier to see where things begin and end.

For Java I use JCreator, its an older version, but it was free and doesn't have a trial time period like the newer versions.

I use VB6 and VB.NET quite a bit as well.
