I had one a long time ago, but it wasn't very good. The good ones cost a lot of money to purchase and with technology changing so rapidly, you are pretty much buying a new one every 2 years or so. So if it is a rare occasion you get a speeding ticket, in te long run it isn't really worth buying one.

http://valentine1.com is supposed to be the best. i've done a lot of research and it looks like they have good support for 'upgrade' programs when they do upgrade.

it's still $400, but after paying a ticket, sitting through traffic school, or paying higher insurance rates, i think it may be worth it.

my new car is fast, and it is too easy to be rolling a little over the speed limit, so i may just get one.

Reminds me, I need to take a defensive driving course again in order to qualify for the rate reduction on my insurance. I've always wondered if it was possible to fail one of those. Last time I was in one, we were suppose to list things other drivers do to tick us off (with the intent being things like "don't use turn signals"), and I said "drive slow". Apparently that wasn't enough to flunk me . . .

the story is kind of funny. i updated the chip in my new car and had a gauge to monitor the boost from the turbo. when i got pulled over, it was still sitting on the dash.

the cop says "oh, you have a turbo .. did you install that thing yourself? would you mind popping the hood?"

i gestured toward the hood after popping it, and he said "no, it's your baby, go ahead"

i assured him it's all stock and i just updated the chip and was monitoring my boost. lol, i was caught red handed.

after giving me the ticket he asks "do you have any questions? do you want to see the radar?"

i said "actually, yeah, i've never seen a radar before."

after showing me the speed on the radar ( 65 in a 45 ) , he handed it to me and showed me how to use it. he told me to point it into oncomming traffic and let me clock a couple cars.

i then asked him what the difference was between the radar and laser guns, .. he said he didn't like laser guns because you have to aim through a site and it hurts his back on the motorcycle.

i told him how mythbusters tested out all the ways to trick radars, and they didn't work .. we ended up talking for about 10 minutes before i left.

it's funny to drive away from a speeding ticket with a smile on your face. lol .. if i had a radar detector, that would not have happened.

i'll consider it an expensive lesson on how to use a radar gun.

Just about to mention valentine 1 as well. I like the fact that you're not stuck with the same technology. (seems to be the most recommended on the several acura forums I visit)

What is your new car?

there are a LOT of people around the forums i visit who swear by the V1 over and over.

i got a subaru legacy gt ltd. what a fun car! awd, 250hp, 250lbs tq. i've reflashed the ECU and after replacing the up and down pipes, i should be making 300+hp. i got it for the power, comfort, reliability of subaru, awd, price point, and ability to modify affordably.

i like the quality of the interior of an A4 a little better, although you get more power and a fully optioned limited LGT for significantly less than the base 3.0 quattro. then the subaru can be modded much easier and a lot less than an a4 thanks to the market that the wrx / sti has made.

i probably would have got an A4 if i had thought i could afford it because i would never have test drove the legacy. i'm glad i did. it's loads of fun. i just need to learn how to drive better now.

Man, that thing looks sweet. (and 300hp.. holy!)

Now I'm having HP envy with my TSX.
