Can they be done?

I have not seen any around. I'm not sure if this board calls them 'stickies' but to those that don't know - they are topics that will always be listed on the top of all other topics.

I wanted to ask somebody who knew what theyw ere doing to write a quick 'How to install MySQL' sticky for idiots like me that know a lil SQL from college and such forth but cannot install it from adam.

yes, this board calls them stickys. there is not really a 'right' way to do this and it really depends how your database is setup, but let me give an example.

let's say i have a table named: posts
it looks like this:
postid
threadid
posttitle
posttext
postdate
issticky

now if i wanted to grab all posts for thread id# 100, and ordered by date, but display sticky posts first, then i'd do this:

select * from posts where threadid=100 order by sticky desc,date

Ahh cool ok. So...can we do it then? Do you plan on getting stickies implemented? As I understand it only admins / mods / people of importance can assign stickies so fair enough.

Is this your way of trying to teach me a lil SQL?

oh, i thought u were asking that on a program level .. if you are just inquiring about how this forum works .. you got it right. only admins/moderators can make things sticky. otherwise it could get pretty ugly.

I think I confused you when I mentioned SQL.

I was asking because I think certain topic need stickies for everybody's reference and I used the MySQL thread as an example!

So can you guys do them already? If you can then I might instigate the CN sticky revolution and start a few and suggest them for stickyness

Yes we can make anything sticky

Just point us in the right direction, and we'll considder if it's apropriate to make it stick.

Here is the first one.

It would probably need proof reading and checked over for in integrity and accuracy but I did it based from experience
