| What do you do in the real world? So... what do you forum goers get up to when you're not here imparting and imbibing programming wisdom?
Me, I'm a second year uni student, half way through my Bachelor of Engineering in Software Engineering. I'm a little worried, 'cause I started the degree the first year it was offered and now they're apparently discontinuing it, so my qualifications will be rare
On the work front, I'm employed as an Internet Promoter. It's fun.
So, what kinds of people make up this forum? |

| When I'm here "imparting and imbibing" programming, I'm actualy at work.
Currently I hold a PhD in Comp Sci with a master in Math. and my daily job is spend as the System administrator for Quality Control within the Novo Group(I have nothing to do with maintaining the web site) Mainly my usual task is to get everything working, for the quality control department, across the widespred network which a corporation like this spans.
[edit]
Forgot to mention what I do, when I'm not here..
Usualy I sit at home and play around with all sorts of computer related tasks, boy it's a weight of your shoulders when you don't have an internet connection from home. |

| Well, at work I'm an Oracle DBA, at least most of the time. Sometimes I connect here from work; sometimes I connect from home. I've done a variety of computer related things over the years, but DBA has been at the core of that. Education-wise, I have a BS in Chemical Engineering and an MS in MIS. Chemical Eng. was my first career before I joined the dark side. :-)
When I'm not at work, I wrestle with my 3 year old and try to write fiction. More of the former than the latter these days. I just formed a writers' group with some friends, so I'm hoping to make more progress on the writing front. |

| Right now I am an Application Developer. I mainly am working with ASP and SQL Server most of the day. I also am in the middle of rearchitecting our systems and converting them to a .NET platform.
My education background is I have a BS in Computer & Information Technology from Purdue University. I have a MCP in ASP.NET/VB.NET. I am currently working towards my MCSD. and in the spring I am looking to possibly start an MBA program with the Kelly School of Business at Indiana University.
When I'm not at work i'm pretty much just trying to have fun and party, which is what ever single guy is trying to do.

| I develop web apps for Roland. ( i didn't design most of that site ) I develop more of the product support related web apps for the company. Most of it is internal for agents to log calls and create knowledge base articles for the external facing site. I also develop online learning systems to train our dealer network to use the equipment. The tricky part of that is integrating these apps into our IBM Midrange server. ( as/400 ) For example, calling programs and writting to that db2 database. On the side, I take on misc projects for a little extra cash too.

| I do work for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, creating/updating a webapp that keeps track of all of their officers. It was an internship-style deal for the past year and a half for me. Now that I've graduated (CS BS and Math minor) I'm looking for more regular work with a development house or something.
As hobbies, I play around with computers, study history, political philosophy and theology, watch anime and science-fiction. |
