What resolution do you use?
I'm working on a new look. Since it's getting less and less that people use 800x600, I'm thinking about lowering my concern about that.
What do you all think?

Higher for me. 1440 X 900. I have a Toshiba notebook with a 17" widescreen display. I love it, it kicks ass. The killer screen is one of the top three reasons I bought this one over other models.
But aside from me, I have noticed that more and more people are running higher than 800 X 600. I think it's largely because a good number of new computers are coming with the resolution factory pre-set at 1024 X 768.
This is a good thing, of course. Ya know, the majority of people out there never change their resolution from the factory setting? Remember the days when we had to design web sites for a 640 X 480 screen and 256 colors because that's what 80% of the people were running? Man, times have changed.

I use higher, 1152x768.
I think down with 800x600, I personally hate designing websites for that resolution, and because of that, I simply don't.

I bought a top notch 19" monitor (iiyama HM903DTA)some time ago but I regret it quite a bit. I should have saved twice as much for a good 22" monitor.
Lesson learned.

My home machine uses 1280x768 (I think that's the Y height). My laptop uses 1400x1050.

I use 1182 at home and 1024 at work. I wish I could make it 1182 at work, but alias I have a crappy graphics card. I asked for a new one, but they just asked why I needed a new card when the one I have is good enough for me to do my work on.

Tell them you're not as productive unless you can use 1182 or greater resolution. Otherwise the screen is too small and its difficult to have many programs open. I requested a new monitor (19) and a PC when I was hired. The old PC + 15" was unacceptable.

(ps. is it really necessary to put disclaimers on your sql 'code' on your site? The examples are so basic that virtually any sql-based project is going to use something similar. )

hah, very true. especially if you are using Visual Studio.
it's easy to explain to them that there is a LOT more going on in your IDE than most normal users have. you need to be able to see your code, as well as all the tools.
then tell them they are lucky you are not requesting dual monitors because a lot of people like to watch their code output on one screen while their program runs in the other
