oh yeah, don't worry about that safe... it's one thing when you actually join in on topics, ask questions, .. just generally engage in the community .. it's another when your 1 and only post is advertising your site.
we have had problems with people signing up just to spam their site in their profile. this is why i've disabled that feature for new users. we have no problem with sites in your sig though. afterall, it's a programming community =) we make stuff like that.
