Apache is the standard.

I'm no expert on Web servers, but everything I've seen/read/heard in the last 10 years or so says Apache is more secure. It's also open source, which means it easier (and cheaper) to get support.

Plus I think about 90% of the viruses out there that attack Web server vulnerabilities are written for Microsoft based servers. That would make me a little bit nervous.

It isn't about Apache or ISS. It is all about Abyss Web Server. www.aprelium.com
I guarantee if you check it out you will love it; that's what I use for www.cfxnetworks.com and it has some great uptime, and never crashes; (OK, I'm sure a DDoS could do a job on it, but you get my point).

Try it out.

having developed websites that drove massive traffic, iis proved itself incapable of handling the load when hits spiked. whether it be the server itself or the underlying os, its reliability track record is poor.

for a small-time web server, a well administered windows+iis machine is just fine (when kept behind a good firewall).

I've had experiance with both Apache and IIS, Apache won for both stability and flexability. The flexability made Apache also more secure and in my books it kicks IIS's ass.
