Really, I mean how do I get people to join as opposed to them just surfing the site?

i think most web sites have that problem, i have been trying to get more members on mine for quite some time, but very little luck, i guess the only thing you can do is wait and hope, and ads everywhere

ah yes, .. a good question.

code newbie certainly hasn't got all its members over night. it has taken a very long time.

advertisements certainly help too. effective advertisements cost money though.

i wish i had better answers.. but i do wish you good luck =)

SEO doesnt hurt.
