Is this too drastic...
I've been recieving some messages from Rod'N'Bob ( http://home.radiks.net/~robertm/index.html) they claim they run a ligitimate mailing list, but since I never joined I'm getting fed up with it..
Is this reply too drastic:

[snip off alot of spam]
Dir Rod'N'Bob,
Sorry to take these messures, but since I've recieved 8 messages from you
resembling spam within the last hour, I strongly suggest you to remove me
from what ever list you claim to send this to.
The addresses I recieve your mail through are:
<first@mail.address> and <second@mail.address>
Since I've _never_ submitted these addresses to any list what so ever from
your site, and the only place I have them posted is on my own site
[http://redhead.dk] I must assume that you have harvested these for the
purpus of spamming.
Should you how ever refuse to remove me from your so claimed list, I will
blacklist your sender IP (h216-170-009-009.adsl.navix.net) [216.170.9.9]
thus preventing any mail to my domain comming from your MTA relay.
aswell as filtering any mail with the Reply-to header containing
<robertlm@mindspring.com> in order to end this.
At the same time I will inform <uce@ftc.gov>, <haesslich@loyalty.org> and
<sness@fcc.gov> about your spamming attempt, with every header information
they need in order to take appropriate messure to end this.
Now I am a reasonable man, but since I do _not_ aprove the use of spam, I
feel the need to take these approriate actions.
Should you how ever run a legitimate list these messages are beeing send
to, I would surely hope we can find a more accurate solution for this.
I hope we can find a solution, where I will no longer be bothered by these
messages, the 350 messages I recieve from the linux kernel mailing list
every day, makes it up for what ever mail I need.
I'm looking forward to hearing what actions you think will be appropriate
in finding a solution to this problem.
Regards
Kenneth

the question was if it was too drastic ....
.... not if we think it would work or not. sarcasm comes across snooty here =)
just do it .. block their ip class so you don't receive stuff from them anymore.

I actually threatened to sue a spammer one time, about a year ago, and they settled out of court with me. I live in Nevada, which has some of the strictest anti-spam laws in the nation.
This company out of New Jersey was sending me spam for home refinancing, water purifiers, free cell phones, you name it. I tried to unsubscribe, but of course that rarely works. I kept getting spam from them.
So one day I e-mailed the vice president of the company, sent him some snippets of the Nevada spam laws, and I basically told him to remove me or face a lawsuit. I would be seeking damages for all my lost time in dealing with the countless spams they sent me.
He responded that I was removed. A week later I get another spam from them. I contacted him again and sent a copy of the spam, and told him now the gloves are off. You've continually violated my state laws, lied to me by telling me that I was off your list, and now you're gonna pay.
Well, the story is much longer than that, but to make it short he had their attorney e-mail me to discuss it. He claimed that they could PROVE that I opted into their list (which I knew I didn't). So I said, "No problem then. You won't mind if I subpeona your server logs for the last year to see if we can find an IP address that can be connected to me."
They ended up settling for $250, and I had to sign an agreement that I would never reveal the name of the company. Just wanted to share my story.

one time i was fusterated, and just started sending 100 emails back to whoever was advertising for every one i received. i explained in the email that if it wasn't them sending me emails, then they have hired a service who isn't respecting my privacy and requests to be removed.

The problem with that is that you might get problems because of spamming. I'd be carefull with that.
But I like the idea. But I also value my connection

You are being much nicer than i. Usually as long as they leave a opt-out that works i'll use that, but if not i get annoyed and out comes my mean streak

When I mailed them this reply, I was very aware not to use anything which would conform with their opt-out option. The address I send it to was the personal contact address displayed on their website. And the subject dosn't contain anything looking like "Remove me" as their opt-out required.
And their spamming session did end, so I guess they did perform a listwashing else I'll just have to wait and see what the next spamming spree brings.
And for the record, here in Denmark there are laws prohibiting any form of spam send to a reciever that didn't explicit applied for it.
