The arrogance of some people.

After a few years, where I chose not to help out in any newsgroups related to C/C++ due to the arrogance of some of the people there. I started reading the groups again today..

Conclusively, some the folks has moved on, but unfortunately the same arrogant tone still lurks in the groups, thus I think my days are over reading newsgroups for good.

Just a small snippet to illustrate what I'm talking about:
Quote:
Average Joe <nospam@all.com> wrote in message
> I am trying to teach myself C++ and I am writing this simple maze
> program. Can I get some hints on making this work.

It would help if ask for something more specific than "making this work".
Now a normal person would indeed provide some help, due to the fact, that the Average Joe provided a full 120 lines of code in the initial post, which he couldn't get working. And simply because his english skills isnt as perfected as one might desire I feel there is no need to reply in this manner..

Sorry folks, I just needed to let out some steam

I can somewhat see the point of that post though. Sometimes there are numerous errors in the code, and it seems the person asking for help wants others to fix it so that it is compilable and does what it is supposed to do. It does help when someone asking for help explains what they need help with, i.e. don't understand what this function does, if this function does what it needs to do with the way i have it coded, etc.

or if the person took 5 minutes to look for the answer on google. so many questions are asked that can be answered if the person just looked for it, thats why alot of people may sound arrogant on usenet. plus that and most people never read the FAQ for the group and that pisses people off, though there is still alot of elitism.

I personally dont see the point at all with telling someone to use google. I mean we're not their mothers and fathers, if someone asks a question and I know the answer Im not gonna dangle it in front of then and basically say I know the answer now you can get it too by looking. I just dont get that I mean it takes less then 5 minutes to answer most questions.
