Is there a good, free IRC client you'd recommend?

um I can't think of an IRC client that isn't free.

MIRC for windows and I've heard of a Linux one called BitchX.

Uhh, Mirc isn't free. You should register it.

www.mirc.com

[edit]

Forgot to mention..really the best Linux / BSD IRC clients, IMHO are Xchat (which is a really nice X based irc client) and IRSSI (which has both text and a GTK interface available, although I prefer the text mode). And yes, these are both free.

For mac you can use ShadowIRC
which can be found here!

It's not great, but its the best mac irc agent I've found so far...

Not OS X friendly though, I will update this post if I find a good OS X mIRC agent!

forgot to mention, I'm on WinXP. I guess I could always use Trillian, but I'd only need it for IRC, since I only use AIM.

I use trillian, but I also use Mirc. I dunno why just do. I like trillian better than AIM it's more customizable and less pushy (what with it not being AOL and all).

I use Chatzilla, Mozilla's IRC client. It's free too...

I don't go there too often because usually there's only 2 or 3 people and they're all away...

I would say the reason being is that we have a couple of people that always have IRC up and running and just happen to be on different time tables. Obviously some members are in different time zones and can only be found during odd hours. Usually Friday / Sat eves are a good time to find several people hanging out, and if you don't see someone on there, you could hang out for a while and wait for someone to wander in...

I have to agree. Trillian is probably one of my favorite messenging programs because of the number of different mediums it connects to. I'm finally able to connect to all my AIM, ICQ, Y!, MSN, and IRC channels. Even if you're only using one medium, it's nice to have the possibility. Heh... 5 chat mediums at once...
...
Which is unusual.
...
I have more chat mediums than I do friends.
...
Hehehe...
