motherboard

I recently put together my impressive comp! How quickly I yearn for more! (MORE!!!)

My question is a simple one. I have a p4s8x-x Asus motherboard with a 2.8 p4 1024mb ddr2700 ram the booklet that came with the mobo says "according to SiS specs only two ddr333 ram can be supported at a time" hmmm itll support 3 sticks of 1gb 2100 would that be better or better yet it has options for me to adjust power to the ram is there a way i can convince it to support 3 sticks of ram because i already bought three (the advertisement for the board didnt state that it could only support 2 sticks of 2700)

any advice?

how fast can you oc a 2.8 intel chip before it catches fire? =P

I looked over the PDF manual available on Asus website, it clearly states in two places (that I can find anyway) what you're saying about only supporting 2 sticks of PC2700. AFAIK, I've never seen a case where you can 'fool something into working'. If it won't work, it won't work. That's like trying to 'fool it' into using an AMD proc. I'd highly recommend contacting your vendor and pointing out to them that they didn't clearly advertise this fact to you. Providing, of course, that you bought the memory at the same place you bought the mainboard, I'd make a strong argument and make them take back the 3 sticks of ram in exchange for 2 sticks of similar capacity.

Other than that, I'd recommend something that I do prior to putting a system together; scrounge up as much information on the chipset, the mainboard in general, all the specs you can find from the manufacterer's websites. Just like in this case, I was able to easily download the manual from Asus website, gives me complete specs that vendors might not mention. You'll avoid problems like this in the future that way. Good luck.

i have a question, are you ever actually going to need that much ram? unless you are doing massive video editing or insist on running 100 apps at the same time you will never need that much ram.

I always need that much ram.

I know that it says in the booklet that "according to SiS specs only two sticks of 2700 ram supported" but this mobo also has a bios which will allow for easy overclocking and easy power adjustment. So my question is why cant the SiS chip handle 3 sticks of ddr333? I realize you cannot pop an AMD into there and BAM it works but you could over clock a p4 in there with this motherboard. Also in the specs in the book it doesnt list any 1gb sticks of ddr333 that they tested to work in the motherboard. Think one will work anyways? They dont say a 1024 stick wont work they just fail to mention any under the suggested ram.

I think you're barking up the wrong tree. Contact Asus.
