the code they produce is below my standards (that is from older versions of dreamweaver, hotdog, frontpage, homesite, etc.)

also, said editors create people who have no idea of how to develop a site. they think that because they can click and drag they know what they are doing. that is what really irks me.

this is true but their target audience is not some aol user that is making a homepage. they want serious developers to use it thus the huge price they carry, you shouldnt hate a product because leet duders download it from kazaa and put up sites with 10000 animated gifs. and as for the code it creates ofcourse its not going to be perfect thats why a competent web designer would clean it up later

I started doing HTML a long time ago and I pounded out every page on the keyboard. When the WYSIWYG editors came on the scene they saved an enumerable amount of time. (I apologize if this turns into a rant.)

I agree with Admin that the code they put out is less than acceptable by professional standards. But then again, I don't always create perfect code either. That is one reason programs like HTMLTidy were created. I do admit that when kiddies that pull out Dreamweaver and create a basic site and think that they are the greatest thing are annoying, but the people tha can really deliver are the ones that people notice in the end.

Anyone who dismisses WYSIWYG's has quite obviously never had to crank out an enormous amount of HTML is an extremely limited amount of time. Sure, I would love to sit down and savor each and every TD and P tag, but there are little things called deadlines that tend to change elitist attitudes very quickly. Besides, I would much rather spend my time working on the back end of a site rather than wasting all my time typing out the front end.

No offense meant to anyone, just a sore subject for me.

heh, my designers are responsible for producing 98% of the HTML. i just have to do the content stuff. maybe you need to find a new designer?

if you have to write ALL the HTML for a page then go ahead and use dreamweaver, but if i were you i would tell the designer to get busy and bust out the bulk of it.

I just use the IDLE that came with vpython (www.vpython.org), works good for me, colour coding and auto tabbing.

For HTML I use HTML-Kit (something's wrong with the site right now, though).

Dev-C++ for C++.

Just my opinion, but I've always thought designers were more useful in a design capacity, i.e. graphics, Flash, layouts, etc. If your designers produce 98% of your HTML, methinks they're not really designers, they're low-level coders.

Blarg.

MSVC 6.0 for C++ and Java.
Notepad or DreamWeaver MX for HTML and PHP and so forth. (Looking into editPlus)
Flash MX for actionscript.
