Ad Banners
It has been the plan to advertising on Code Newbie when we reached a set amount of regular traffic, and now the time has come.
Banner ads on Code Newbie will benefit the advertisers by generating traffic for them, as well as help offset the time and cost of maintaining the site.
I'm trying to work on an elegant place to put the ads, so please give me feedback on the current placement.
The only problem I see with the current placement could be with lower resolution monitors.. but please let me know.
Thanks,
-=sde

naked fish don't count as porn, .. but there will be restrictions to sites that are advertised here.

good or bad?
I don't mind them at all, so much so that I didn't notice them until I read this thread. I went through another completely different thread entirely before I read this one. So no only are they unintrusive, they're almost invisible.
Is that a good or a bad thing? Depends on who you are.
Oh and forget the people with the lower resolutions, they should change it anyway.

I agree. I haven't noticed them. Are they pop-ups? If some are, that's one reason. But I haven't noticed any on the page.
I also agree, lower resolutions should be changed. I mean, how can you stand something being that big.

still haven't found them?
they're right up top, but they're the same color so they blend, they don't look out of place so they don't catch your attention.
Other adds which are different colors likely would catch your attention, or at least more so.

i was tweeking around with includes and stuff ... fortunately you are the only one who sees that one
it is triggered by your userid.. vbulletin's include template makes it so you can include any php file.. then you can use those variables anywhere else in the template system.
pretty powerful!

I'd like to go with what saline said in the fact that it is currently almost invisible. On the forum home I would place it just above the footer and right below the Private Messages and Who's Online. Why? People tend to check to see who's online (esp. guests -- they like to see how active a forum is) as well as their private messages. To add onto that, where it is right now on the forum home seems a bit, "mis-placed", perhaps. While not having it at the top makes it not as noticeable right away, but it could be more noticeable when it's closer to something people look at.
On the forum display, show thread, and reply pages, I would actually make it center above the links, "Code Newbie Forums > Category Name > Thread Name > Thread".
Just my feedback.

thanks ryan, ..
it definately will stay on top because it is an advertisement .. i but it may be a good idea to put one on the bottom too.
also, .. if you go to any page, .. showthread, reply, post , it is everywhere. i coded it into the header script.
we're working on the pricing now so hopefully we'll have a couple sponsors soon.

I see that it's coded into the header, I was referring to centering it over the links. Also, whenever you get prices together I'd be interested to know what they are as I might want to advertise here.

the only reason i didn't do that .. or put it above or below the links is because the user would have to scroll more to get to the content. it would mean the height of the image plus some space above and below. as it is now, it is in the same table row as the links. i should probably experiment a little though.
haven't been to bbadmins in a while, .. i am registered there though. it was nice to see it come back online =)
