Taking the "plunge" delayed due to lack of $$$

I've decided to increase my memory quite a bit (I'm going to get a 512 & 256 to give me a gig of memory!) and then get VMware!! I think I'll be really happy with that!

Any thoughts?

So, that'll cost a nice little chunk o'change... until then, I'm still being held captive by Window$

As far as usability goes, I'd much rather have an actual Linux/Win install on a dual boot than use VMWare. Cost wise, here's a ballpark figure for each configuration -

VMWare / More RAM (which is always a good thing anyway):

VMWare $300.
Generic PC133 RAM, 512MB $160.
Generic PC133 RAM, 256MB $80.
Ballpark out of pocket for this (limited) setup $540.

(of course, depends on what type of RAM, but thats as good a figure as any)

Extra HDD to install Linux on:
20GB ATA100 HDD (any manf) $60-$70.

Use 3GB on an existing harddrive:
Free

Good luck, whichever way you decide to go.

Yeah, those are the Figure$ I came up with... the thing is, I think I'd be more inclined to use Linux if I didn't have to reboot into it... whereas, with VMware, it'll be so much easier to work with both at the same time... I know me, and I'm pretty lazy when it comes to things like that and I'd hate to go thru all the trouble of the second hd and not use it... I'm used to having multiple windows up and working on more than one project at a time... I think I'd be more comfortable with it...

But I appreciate you looking into it for me!!!

Of course, I'll keep your idea in mind if I can't get the $$ saved!!! ha ha ha!
