screen package?

does anyone know the package name for screens?

the 'screen' feature comes standard in every redhat distro, .. however not in debian. i need to use screens in debian but the package isn't there.

any ideas?

Are you talking about ncurses? What apt sources are you using? Have you searched the package directory at www.debian.org?

not sure wha i'm talking about .. not sure the name of it .. but this is how it works.

i take a process i want to run in the background and i can start and detach it from the current screen.
[SHELL]$ screen -A -m -d -S cstrike ./hlds_run[/SHELL]

then when i want to pull up the screen again, i would type
[SHELL]$ screen -r cstrike[/SHELL]

now my current screen is this original process. i can again detach the screen by pressing ( ctrl + a ) d

Looks like this may be what you're looking for, available in all flavors of debian; have you looked for the package with 'apt-cache search screen' or just tried to use the command and it's not installed?

apt-get?

I have heard of apt-get a few times before, isn't it kind of a package update/install/dependency-resolve type prg? I have tried a few different RPM based systems that use similar prgs to resolve dependency issues.

How do you like apt-get? How well does it to dependency resolution when updating? That always seemed like the real test. URPMI from Mandrake wasn't bad but it sometimes chokes when you try to do an update. I am curious.

apt-get is primarily why i use debian =)

if you have a good source list of places to download packages .. it works beautifully.

3 thumbs up for debian.

Grab a Mac, and get Yellow Dog Linux. Get apt-get and RH in one package.
