Red Hat version differences?

im setting up a terminal server and have the option of running 7.2, 7.3 or 8.0.

what are the differences between each version? what would you suggest that i run?

I have heard multiple opinions about 8.0: some saying that it is slow and incompatable, others saying it is a beauty. I say try them all

in my experience with all 3 .. i'd recommend 8.0 for a desktop situation .. but if you are running any type of web services ( apache/php/mysql ) run 7.2 . redhat 8 comes with apache 2.0 which is not very friendly with php at all.

if you need help with web services setup for 7.2, i have all the files and tricks to set that up.

7.3 was a dog for me all the way around.

The major differences in these is that 7.2 only has KDE 2.2, 7.3 KDE3, but only GCC 2.96, and 8.0 has KDE3. GCC 3.2, GTK+ 2, and an array of much better apps than the previous 2. 7.2 and 7.3 pretty much have the same apps, but weaker kernels. IMO 8.0's kernels are quite rock solid.

i have set up the terminal server with 7.2 & 7.3 before, perhaps i will try 8.0 and see how that works out.

Go with 8 and downgrade any servers if necessary (as in Apache's case). 8 kicks ass and is by far their best relase to date. And if you want, 8.1 is due SOON. Which should be mainly a XFree, GNOME, and KDE upgrade (dunno about any new glibc or gcc revisions or not).

But for servers, X really isnt needed, much less KDE, GNOME or any other crap like that.
