Exclamation Newbie Help (Japanese Language Support)

Hi, I'm very interested in Linux but I’m a Super newbie and I'm having trouble deciding on the right distribution for me (Haven’t you heard this a million times?) anyway here is my problem, I need a distribution that can switch between reading and writing in English and Japanese (Japanese Language Support) with out any trouble or restarting the operating system and using the same keyboard for both English and Japanese. I heard Kondara had this option but the distribution no longer exists, you can still purchase Kondara at www.pcmall.com but the company is no longer supporting this product or anything to do with it, and I was wondering if there is any other distributions that can perform this same task? Also I heard the standard computer for running Linux are x86 machines, I have no idea what kind of computers these are and need Help!!!

My computer specs are:
700 megahertz Intel Pentium III [Processor]
NVIDIA GeForce2 Ultra [Video Card]
512 Megabytes of Memory [Ram]
HP DeskJet 930C [Printer]
Creative SB Live! Value [Sound Card]

Is there any distibutions that can support my hardware and the Japanese language support? I really want to switch to Linux but I have no idea where to start, If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it. Thanks for reading this, I know its long!

All i586, i486, and i386 distro's should work on your computer. As for the distro, I would ask on a Japanese Linux forum.

EDIT: Yes your computer is x86 (also commonly called i386) architecture.

EDIT: EDIT: And your sound card is supported under Linux, just thought you should know.

EDIT: EDIT: EDIT: And your Video card

welcome, i believe i would go wiht a Redhat or Mandrake as both have many laguage packs with them. It should be reletive easy to switch between either languages with ease.

good luck and let us know how it goes.

btw, i have the same video, sound and printer on one of my systems and both mandrake and redhat picked them up with ease.

1.) It's not even 10 PM man!

2.) RH and other non-slacware/BSD systems use SysV init scripts not BSD style so it would be in /etc/init.d I believe

3.) read number 2.) . Slackware is the only distro that uses BSD style scripts so for Red Hat or Mandrake or a non-slackware box it would be /etc/init.d because /etc/rc.d (lower d) is a BSD script thing

4.) /etc/rc.d/rc.local
