trailing "/" after a url

when i run apache on my server, i need to include the "/" at the end of any directory for it to be valid.

for example:

www.mydomauin.com/pics will not work
www.mydomain.com/pics/ will work

is there a setting in httpd.conf that allows you to leave off the trailing "/" ?

check out:
http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/misc/rewriteguide.html

The section on practical solutions has the answer. The odd thing is, I checked my site (available via my DSL), and I couldn't figure out why mine is working. Granted, I didn't spend much time looking, but a grep did not turn up what I expected.

Good point. I just realized that I posted the URL for the Apache 2.0 documentation. I checked and it's the same for 1.3.x. I'm actually running 1.3.24.

*shivers* 2.0 has some serious problems with PHP so I am not touching it until that is resolved.
