Anyone use LinuxMCE?

I have been on a home automation/media kick lately and decided to setup a LinuxMCE system finally.

It requires you to install Kubuntu first, then LinuxMCE installs over that.

LinuxMCE has been installing for about 3 hours now... I hope it's going to be worth it.

I haven't used that one, but ever since my playstation stopped playing dvds I've been using a mythbuntu machine as a dvd player/pvr.

what's the system specs and how does it perform? i put it on a 1.7ghz p4 but only 512mb of memory.

i ordered a capture/encoder card because all i have right now is a usb capture device that i can't seem to get configured right. when i go to area where you scan channels, it won't list the card even though i added it.

i'm also unsure on what channel frequency is used for my cable providor (time warner) .. couldn't find anything in my searching.

I'm using a 2ghz athlon w/ 512mb ram and a haupage 250 card from a number of years ago. It has an older radeon 9600 as a video driver. The machine isn't quite powerful enough to deliver a 1080p image for my television but it does 480p and upscaling without a hitch. I only have broadcast channels coming in, no cable. I mostly use it to watch dvds. The realtime feature doesn't work (too stuttery), but recording something on a timer, then playing it back later works fine.

i ditched linuxmce and installed a new ubuntu 7.04 with mythtv.

i'm getting my butt kicked by this setup. feisty with a couple pchdtv cards. there's make errors in the v4l drivers for the cards i bought, but i can use the dvb version.

they only pick up a few channels out of my cable box, and when they do, it adds a bunch of channels for every 1, .. so like 80_1, 80_2, 80_3, 80_4, 80_5, etc... i probably need to read up more on mythv to understand that though.

the cable box does have firewire, and i was able to get a channel loaded up just fine with that and it looks great. the problem is that you can not scan for channels with firewire so they have to be entered manually. (cause of a bug)

feel like i'm dumping way too much time for too little progress.
