i setup a Fedora Core 4 server on a windows network.

i'm having a difficult time pulling up the server by the hostname from a windows machine.

on winxp, when i explore the network, i can see the workgroup and even the server in the list.

i just can not ssh or pull up the address in a browser by the hostname.

any ideas?

The SMB protocol has it's own discovery system. ssh and your web browsers perform a DNS query to translate the hostname, SMB lookup is not performed.
You could try installing BIND on your linux machine to provide name services, though.

i was able to do it by adding this line to my eth0 script.. but thanks anyway .. i did not feel like delving into BIND

DHCP_HOSTNAME=myhost
