Thumbs up debian install report

it seems as though the debian install went well .. startx doesn't work, so i don't think i have gnome or kde.

i have the debain packages list pages saved in my bookmarks and will go there and look to see if there is a certain program from time to time. Other than that i usually just try to apt-get it and see what happends

Under 'woody' you can grab the utility 'aptitude', and this makes a nice apt front-end. You can search through software, and install right from that interface. It's pretty much all I use to install / update / remove software. Of course, you can just about 'apt-get' anything. Think of a software package you'd like to have, and just 'apt-get softwarepackagename'. More than likely it'll download and install automatically, grabbing any dependencies as it goes.

i'm in heaven..

first off a big thanks to bdl for getting my system in shape =)

i am amazed at the whole aptitude thing. in a perfect world, every operating system would have this to find, download, and install programs with the press of a key or three. (+gg) woohoo

thanks, i'm diggin debian.
