yum update problems

i'm trying to update one of my servers and i get a conflict between kernel and e2fsprogs.

i have added e2fsprogs to the exclude path in yum.conf, but i still get the conflict.

Quote:
# yum update
Gathering header information file(s) from server(s)
Server: Red Hat Linux 9 - i386 - Base
Server: Red Hat Linux 9 - i386 - updates
Finding updated packages
Downloading needed headers
Resolving dependencies
..conflict between kernel-smp and e2fsprogs
anyone have an idea how i can get this system to update?

have you tried e2fsprogs first? and then the kernel?

how about manually recompiling the kernel?
