Debian ISO
I got an ISO of Debian 'woody' last night. Made my CD and tonight at 6pm PST, I'm going to load it up ! woohoo ...
I did put the CD in the drive and It looked like it was booting ok.. except it mentioned kernel 2.2.xxx is 2.2x the latest or 2.4x?

welcome to the dark side 2.4.18 is the latest stable i believe, but i think that woody comes with 2.2.20 or at least my Woody Net ISO install did. I dont think debian uses the latest kernel because of thier heavily testing tree, but i think you could grab it from 'sid' if you wanted and recompile.

it's kinda strange.. the iso i downloaded that specifically said 'woody' on it.. was about 150mb i think..
then i've been downloading 3 iso's all day long today .. and each are over 600mb. the ones today came from linuxiso.org.
i wonder which downloads are the right ones.

well it depends on which ISO ya get. The net ISO i got was only 25mg because it was the base install and apt-get everything else from the net. If i remember right the 25mg i got was just the base, but there is a 150mg net ISO that had the base and a few programs. I think it is just a matter of download time to the user that made the to two diffrent iso's. The three ya got today are prolly the full install, extras, and source code disks all in full format so theres not to much needed from apt-get. Either way you should be able to get it goin with whatever iso ya use and apt-get anything else ya want.

Just FYI, the small 25MB Netinstall ISO is the one I use, and it does have both 2.2 and 2.4 on it, I believe if you hit F1 at boot, you'll see a menu that will help you choose which kernel you want to use.
http://www.debian.org/CD/netinst/
I'll be around later to answer any questions, hang tight good buddy.

Well, thats another point, you dont have to install with 2.4 anyway, as long as 2.2 will recognize your hardware right off the bat. You can always install with 2.2 and upgrade to 2.4 or 2.5 anytime you like with woody.
