security web cam for linux?

i was thinking it would be cool to setup a web cam on my debian server. i want be able to monitor an area online.

even if i can't do a live stream, .. maybe just make it take a picture every 15 seconds, .. and write over the previous picture.

of course, i don't really want to spend any money, but if i have to i might.

has anyone done this?

i have and if you dont yet own a cam you will obviously have to spend *some* money. i recommend the logitech quickcam 3000 pro. descent cam and pretty easy to get working in linux. as for the software to take snapshots check freshmeat.net there are tons of apps out there(all free).
