Change line width in drawing applet/ allow text entry

1 _________
I have a simple drawing applet, which allows you to choose a colour, bg colour and ddraw either a line, rectangle , ovval ,or an arc.

What would i have to do to allow the thickness of the line to be changed, maybe a slide bar or an input text box.

2 _________
I am also not sure how to allow the user to add text to the canvas. Any help much appreciated.

Thanks
