jsp: display class?

jsp really has me down, but i won't gripe too much about it.

does it make sense to make a display class? for example, do things like:

printHeader();
printFooter();

or should i rely on jsp pages for most of that. at this point i'm not worried about other coders coming in to edit my code later, i just want to make a freaking web app that is fast and efficient.

i'm fighting very hard with jsp, and it is winning at the moment.

I have seperate JSP's for headers and footers, and just include them via a jsp tag. That makes it much easier to change at a later date, new programmer or no.
